There are THREE things required here - all connected by the copulative conjunction, and.

1. Arise

2. Be baptized

3. Wash away thy sins

"Calling on the name of the Lord.

Each of the three was commanded of Saul.

Each of the three was obligatory upon Saul.

Each of the three was necessary in order to his forgiveness.

Note, being baptized and washing away sins were NOT the same action....but rather the washing follows the being baptized. Just as the forgiveness of sins followed being baptized in Acts 2:38.
