^{The Elect Of God}

¹Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, ²elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: [1]

1. Elect / Foreknowledge

a. Election - corporate

1. Israel in the OT - Deut. 7:6; 14:2 - they 'chosen' but!!!

2. Things to Acknowledge and remember:

a. God's willingness for ALL to be saved - 2 Pet. 3:9, 1 Tim. 2:4-6; Tit. 2:11; John 3:16; John 1:29; Mark 16:15-16; 1 Jn. 2:2; Heb. 2:9; etc.

b. Not without OUR part - Not without conditions of forgiveness

1. Mk. 16:15-16; Acts 2:38etc.

2. "IF' ---

3. 2 Pet. 1:10 - make your calling and election sure; for IF…..

3. Christ - the elect one, cp. 1:20, we elect IF we are IN Him…. Eph. 1:4,

2. Foreknowledge of God concerning this…

a. 'prognosis' -

b. The foreknowing, foretelling of this great savior - cp. 1:10f

c. The problem is of 'particular foreknowledge' / particular predestination -

3. Sanctification of the Spirit

a. to be set apart, to be holy ..

b. Work of the -- done with the instrument of the Word - the sword of the Spirit

4. Obedience / sprinkling of blood

a. NONE saved without the blood of Christ -

1. blood shed for the remission of sins - Mtt. 26:38

2. not blood of OT sacrifices - but by His own blood - Heb.

3. purchased the church (US - PEOPLE) with his blood - Acts 20:

4. we are 'washed in his blood' - Rev. 1:6

5. Hence his BLOOD is 'sprinkled' - as was the blood of the sacrifice of the OT when it was to sanctify the holy things and the priesthood…

b. WHEN - when we OBEY the gospel --

1. obedience to the conditions of forgiveness …

a. disobedience = sin, hence the need of such forgiveness,

b. obedience to these other things is simply what we OUGHT to do….

2. hence - purified our souls in obeying the truth through the spirit …1:22

3. hence - born again …1:23

4. disobedient - stone of stumbling / destruction, 2:8

blood baptism

washed sins away wash away sins.. Acts 22:16

forgiven forgiven - Acts 2:38
