Take The Name Of Jesus With You -

Lydia Baxter,  1809 - 1874

Was sick and bedridden most of her life.  Yet, home was a gathering place for many religious people that new her.  Her friends usd to say that a visit to her sickroom was not so much to give her encouragement and comfort as to receive some buoyancy for their own spirits.

A student of the bible - and particularly of 'names'

"You recall that when Esau was born, Jacob had hold of Esau's heel, as if he were trying to pull his twin brother back, so he could be born first. Consequently he was named Jacob, which means 'supplanter.'  Isaac means 'laughter,' - for when Abraham and Sarah learned that, at their advanced age, they were to become parents, they laughed out loud, thinking it was impossible as well as incredible. As for the names of the twelve sons of Jacob, after whom most of the twelve tribes of Israel took their names, they were named for the stange events surrounding their birth, as well as the rivalries which existed between the wives of husband-father Jacob."

She would often inform her friends that Samuel means 'asked of God'

Hannah - "grace"

Sarah - Princess

Naomi - pleasantness

This hymn written just 4 years before her death..

Name of Jesus --  Jehovah Saves,

The name Jesus is not strictly a title for the person who bore it. It is, however, a name with a meaning, being a Greek form of ‘Joshua’, i.e. ‘Yahweh is salvation’. The NT writers were well aware of this meaning (Mt. 1:21). The name thus indicated the function which was ascribed to Jesus, and this later found expression in the title Saviour, which was at first simply a description of the function of Jesus (Acts 5:31; 13:23; Phil. 3:20) but then became part of his solemn title (2 Tim. 1:10; Tit. 1:4; 2 Pet. 1:11). Jesus was the personal name of the Saviour, and while its titular significance remains present for informed hearers, it is probable that to many people it is now no more than a name (compare how the fact that ‘John’ means ‘gift of God’ is not usually in mind when the name is used).

Acts 5:31

31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

Acts 13:23

23 Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:

Philippians 3:20

20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

2 Timothy 1:10

10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

Titus 1:4

4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

2 Peter 1:11

11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
