Spiritual Kingdom
Jn.6:15, Jews once tried to make him king, but he rejected their offer. Why? Because:
1. Jn. 18:36, his kingdom is NOT OF THIS WORLD.
2. Lk. 17:20-21; His kingdom will not come with observation rather it is "within you". IT IS SPIRITUAL.
3. Col. 1:13, you enter his kingdom when you leave the power of Sin and Satan, it is spiritual.
4. Rev. 1:5-6; you enter the kingdom when you become a priest--when you are washed in the blood of Christ. It is a SPIRITUAL KINGDOM.
5. Rom. 14:17 the kingdom is "not meat and drink", but RIGHTEOUSNESS, PEACE, AND JOY IN THE HOLY SPIRIT.
6. This was what he offered them from the beginning.
a. Jn. 2: he announced his death/resurrection.
b. Jn. 3: he said you "must be born again" to enter
c. Jn. 3: he went on to show that "this salvation" depended upon HIS BEING LIFTED UP, AND THEN HE WOULD DRAW ALL MEN UNTO HIM.
7. Notice also, the gospel of Mark.
a. The kingdom time was fulfilled, Mk. 1:14-15
b. Jesus came to call sinners to repent, 2:17
c. parables of kingdom expounded, ch. 4
1. sower, entrance into kingdom = obedience to word of God.
d. announced his death & resurrection, 8:31f.
e. still announced coming kingdom during that generation! 9:1 (note, this not the transfiguration, Apostles still seeking kingdom Acts 1: ,
also Joseph was waiting for it, Mk.15:43)
f. entering kingdom = becoming like children, 10:14f
g. entering kingdom = same as being saved, 10:25-26
h. Jesus to die, 10:33; 45
i. Parable of "vineyard", kingdom given to another nation. Also: 12:34; 14:25; 15:2; 15:26, etc.
