Why Not Use Instruments
It rejects the authority of Christ
- Col. 3:17 - what ever we do, we do by 'his name' - by his authority. He nor his apostles ever authorized such.
It violates the principle of faith
- 2 Cor. 5:7.- we are to walk by faith...
- Rom. 10:17, - faith comes by hearing...the word of God,
- No evidence - only 'guess' -, hence not of faith.
- Instrumental music is not even opinion, it is only a bad guess.
It makes void the word of God by men's traditions
- Matt. 15:7 - not built of God, will not last.
1. men SUBSTITUTE for singing - hence not an 'aid'
2. men of 'renown' from other backgrounds all rejected - Wesly, Clark, (Methodists), Spurgeon (Baptist), Greek Orthodox, etc. Schaff states that between 600-670ad such was introduced over the protests of many catholics.
It is incompatible with the spirit of the kingdom
- John 18:31-36, not a 'worldly kingdom'
- Offer up SPIRITUAL sacrifices, 1 Pet. 2:5; Heb. 13:15-16; Phil. 3:3
- It is the WORDS that make it spiritual -
- Offering Ins. Music like offering a lamb -
It violates specific command of God.
- That which differs from right cannot be right.
