Death and annihilation
SIMPLY MEANS SEPARATION
- from law of Moses, Rom. 7:4
- prodigal, while 'separated from father', Luke 15:24
- us from sin, Rom. 6:2; 1 Pet. 2:24
- from God while still alive, Eph. 2:"1; 1 Tim. 5:6; Rev. 3:1
- physical, spirit from body - James 2:26
USED IN THREE SENSES
- physical death, James 2:26, etc. spirit separated from body.
- spiritual death because of sin, Eph. 2:1 - separated from God
- eternal death = eternal separation from God, 2 Thess. 1:7-9; Rev. 2:11; 20:6, 14
NOT MEAN ANNIHILATION
- Matt. 8:22 - follow me, and let the dead bury the dead.
- Romans 14:9 - for to this end Christ both died and rose again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.
- Phil. 1:21 - for to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
- 1 Thess. 5:9-10 - she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth
- 1 John 3:14 - we know that we passed out of death unto life because we love the brethren. He that loveth not abideth in death.
