Faith and Obedience
FAITH - Used two ways in the Bible:
- The Act of the heart or mind - Rom. 10:10
- The gospel, the revealed faith - Gal. 1:21; 1:11; Jude 3; Eph. 4:4
Kinds of Faith
- living or active - Heb. 11:6ff; Rom. 1:17
- dead faith - James 2:18; 2:26; 2:19
- Vain faith - 1 Cor. 15:14, 17 Matt. 15:9
vain faith produces vain worship, vain worship is 'worthless', all is vain IF BASED UPON MEN'S TEACHING
faith to do miracles - James 5:17
there were NO failed attempts
Such faith was 'given' - 1 Cor. 12
OBEDIENCE
- Mark 3:32-34 - to be a brother to Christ
- Matt. 7:21-23 - to enter the Kingdom
- 1 John 2:2-3 - to know God
- Luke 6:46 - to call Jesus Lord
- John 15:10 - to abide in His love
- Rom. 6:17 - to be set free from our sins
- Phil. 2:12 - to work out own salvation
- 1 Perter 1:2 - elected unto obedience
- John 14:15 - if Love Jesus -
- John 14:21 - This is the one that loves Jesus
- James 1:22 - to be a doer of the work and not a 'hearer only'
- Hebrews 10:36 - to receive the promises of God
- Hebrews 5:8-9 - to be saved
- Phil. 2:5-9 - Christ our example in such obedience
- 1 Peter 1:22 - purify souls by obeying truth
- 1 Peter 4:17 - judgment hard for us, how about those who obey not the gospel?
- 2 Thess. 1:7-9 - to keep from everlasting punishment
- Gal. 5:7 - can QUIT obeying -
