MORE OBSERVATIONS ON HIS SONSHIP
2 Sam. 7:12-16. A dual prophecy of both Solomon and Christ. It is the picture of relationship of Father to Son, of the subordination of the son to the Father. In reference to Christ it speaks of His coming into the world and the role he played of submission to the Father. Part of vs. 14 is quoted in Heb. 1:5 to Show it is fulfilled in Christ.
Heb. 1:5 "I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a son.
NOT ALWAYS A SON. Future tense of verb. Verb is from "eimi, which means TO BE, TO BECOME. This relationship had a beginning.
Phil.2:8 "and being FOUND in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea the death of the cross.
a. "being found, humbled, becoming" are all in the AORIST tense which denotes a time in which all this began. There was a time when Jesus began his servitude; the time was when he came into the world as a man. The aorist tense in this passage is to be compared with the present tense of verse 6 in the word "existing", which denotes a continuous action. If he became a servant when he came into the world, that is when it began, then he wasn't a servant of God before he came into the world. His sonship in this sense had a beginning.
